The Logo

logo
The logo is a representation of the belief that a flag and its colors are not the only way to represent the essence of a country and its people, or the only symbols of citizenship that are worthy of value. Ugandans can and have found relevance outside the country's borders and beyond its colonial baggage, hence the smile.

The header images

All the images in the header are of Uganda: its landscapes and its people. Most of the images were downloaded from Flickr's catalogue of Creative Commons images tagged with Uganda and a Creative Commons Attribution license. The slideshow is created using SlideShowPro and served up by SlideShowPro Director.

In keeping with Creative Commons Attribution License, you can find the original images on the Flickr accounts below:

Under the hood

The website runs on Drupal, an open source CMS. The Drupal Garland theme has been heavily customized to create what you see.

We looked at several sites while working on this site. The design esthetic is influenced by the work of Rui Carmo on the Tao of Mac blog, as well as two great Canadian sites: blogTO and Beyond Robson (thanks guys!!).

citizenuganda.com is constantly changing to accommodate experiments in information architecture and web design.

The Adminstrator's blog has regular posts on the customization process and on-going development issues.
